The Media Public Works staff can be seen throughout the borough collecting trash, leaves, and yard waste and keeping our business district tidy. As Mike Green, Media Public Works director states, “It always seems like we are doing a little bit of everything.” From decorating for the holidays with the help of the Media Business Authority, to taking care of all cleanup in the business district, the public works department works hard to keep Media borough clean.
The ten full-time and two part-time employee team performs various tasks for the borough. The highway department consists of 9 employees: Mike G., Lewis S., Brad C., Kevin O., Chris L., Frank L., Kevin D., Josh M., and Joe D. The sanitation department consists of three employees: Viktor G., William C. and Thomas D.
Media Public Works consists of two teams — the highway department and the sanitation department. Together, they include ten full-time employees and two part-time employees. Nine employees work in the highway department: Mike G., Lewis S., Brad C., Kevin O., Chris L., Frank L., Kevin D., Josh M., and Joe D. The sanitation department consists of three employees: Viktor G., William C., and Thomas D.
For the past two months, the team’s biggest focus has been on collecting yard waste, specifically leaves. In addition, the team put up holiday decorations on Plum St. Mall and wrapped garland around Media’s decorative light posts. Takeout containers have been especially challenging to keep up with lately, and the team has worked diligently to keep up with the town’s trash and maintain a clean business district.
Mike encourages residents to have patience with the department. “A lot of people believe that if we don’t get a yard waste bag or a pile of leaves the day they put it out that we will never get to it” he explains. However, the department works their hardest throughout the week to accomplish all that needs to be done for the borough residents.
Mike would also like to remind residents about recycling their Christmas tree. Christmas trees should be placed with your trash with no plastic bags, ornaments, or lights attached. Plastic cannot be recycled in the same place as the tree and therefore needs to be discarded before the tree is placed outside. In addition, please check the holiday trash schedule for collection. There will not be collection on Christmas Eve or New Years Eve.
Media Borough is very grateful to our Public Works Department for all that they do for our community! Next time you see a member of the Media Borough Public Works Crew, please thank them for all they do for the residents of Media!
