Media Borough Designated “SolSmart Bronze” for Support of Solar Energy

Media Borough received a Bronze designation from the national SolSmart program for making it fast, easy, and affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.

This designation recognizes Media for taking bold steps to encourage solar energy growth and remove obstacles to solar development. A SolSmart Bronze designation is a signal that Media is “open for solar business.”

SolSmart uses objective criteria to award communities points for policies and practices that reduce barriers to solar energy development. A SolSmart Bronze designation means that Media Borough welcomes solar and makes it easy for local homes and businesses to obtain affordable, clean, and reliable electricity through solar. The borough provides solar installation an uncomplicated path through the permitting process, which reduces costs for solar companies and allows them to pass those savings on to consumers. Media’s favorable solar climate encourages solar construction, driving economic development and creating local jobs.

SolSmart is led by The Solar Foundation and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office. More than 300 cities, counties, and small towns have achieved a SolSmart designation since the program launched in 2016. You can find other awardees on this map:  https://www.solsmart.org/our-communities/designee-map/. As part of the SolSmart program, a team of national experts provides no-cost technical assistance to help communities achieve designation. All cities and counties are eligible to join the SolSmart program and receive this technical assistance. Interested communities can learn more at www.SolSmart.org.
