Media Borough Recreation Department

Meet the Media Borough Recreation Department: Your Fun is Their Job!

Media Borough has several community groups that work hard to enrich the lives of borough residents and visitors, one of which is the Media Borough Recreation Department. The Recreation Department, led by the Recreation Board Members and assisted by Paula Tenaro, are a very busy group of people! The Recreation Department works to provide safe, welcoming parks and recreation facilities and affordable, diverse recreation and cultural opportunities for people of all ages to play, learn, and build community. This hard-working group of people create community through people, parks, and programs.

One of the ongoing recreation programs are the exercise classes that are held for a nominal fee. Classes include yoga, pilates, tai chi and zumba. They are held either in the borough parlor or the community center. New this summer, the Recreation Department is sponsoring “Fitness in the Park”. These are outdoor exercise classes in yoga, tai chi, and barre. They are being held next to the “Tot Lot” outside of the borough administration building. More details can be found on the borough website. No matter your age or ability, you will always find an exercise class in the borough thanks to the recreation department!

The Media Borough Recreation Department organizes several events throughout the year including Movie Nights in Barrall Field. Movie Nights harken back to the days of the drive in movie theater and children of all ages will enjoy watching a movie outside just as their parents did when drive-in theaters were all the rage! Bring your lawn chairs and snacks and enjoy the summer with your neighbors in Barrell Park. See the list of recreation events on the borough website for movie nights that have been planned for this summer.

Coming up on July 4th in Barrall Field is Media Borough’s July 4th celebration from 10 am to Noon. There will be a bike decorating contest, performances by “Silly Joe”, a water slide, inflatable play areas, spin art, face painting and food!

In addition to movie nights and the upcoming July 4th festivities, the recreation department organizes holiday and family events including the Easter Egg Hunt and lunch, the Halloween Costume Contest prior to the Media Halloween Parade, Winter Wonderland in December (cookies and hot chocolate with Santa), a Family Dance in February or March, a Senior Dinner at Spasso’s in November and periodic bus trips. There is a bus trip planned for September 15th for a Spirit of Philadelphia cruise and gourmet lunch. See the borough website for more information and to register for the cruise!

Where would Media be without our Recreation Department? This wonderful group of staff and volunteers really keep the borough humming with activities and contribute to a great sense of community! Please think of volunteering to help with one of the many activities, events or projects that the Recreation Department organizes. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors!
